And the survivors from the melee are…

18 06 2012

On a night that MANY teams could had made it easy for themselves on the standings, almost all of them folded, and folded big time. Now we have FOUR teams with 8-4 record and another FOUR teams with a 6-6 record, in total 10 teams vying for an 8 team playoff spots. Before we get there, a recap of the night…

On a game that had first place implications Bocce Bartokomous vs Days of Thunder , our last years summer champions and our fall champs met respectively , and in what could be a playoff match, the Thunders took the first jab and won the night 16-9.

Revenge of WAH would forfeit the night and give a 10-0 wins against Boccelism and Cojones Loco. The game agains the Cojones with playoffs implications.

Swim, Bike, Bocce could had punch their own ticket into the playoffs by beating That’s How We Roll. But in the first of many chokes in the night, Swim, Bike, Bocce fails their task and falls to How We Roll 18-10.  That’s How We Roll then put themselves on position to win their own birthright into the playoffs with a win in their next game.

In the theme of the night, That’s How We Roll, can’t put the nail in the coffin against License to Roll and fall on a close one 16-13.

Team Schweddy coming into the night with a foot on the playoffs, and only needing one win out of their remaining 2 games, couldn’t find their stride and fall at their opportunity for an easy way into the playoffs by choking against Bocce Said She was 18 20-6.   Then adding shame by losing 14-11 against Cojones Loco.

Los Bollarinos B.C. looking for some freshmen luck needed to win both of their night games to have a praying chance into the playoffs but lose both of their games, first against the Segals 18-4.   And later on against What Up, Biocce? 16-9.

Now, the  final standings of the Spring season….

15 Revenge of WAH 2 10 0.167 112 165 -53 9.33 13.75

The reasoning for the standings after careful consideration…

Days of Thunder is number 1, because they defeated Bartokomous (16-9), License to Roll (15-11), AND Cojones Loco (21-7).
Bocce Bartokomous #2 because they beat License to Roll (18-8), and the Cojones (14-13)
License to Roll #3 they beat the Cojones (11-9)
Cojones Loco #4 for having most wins against other teams, but didn’t beat anybody in the 8-4 standings.
Meatballs #5 – only team to 7 wins.

Now for the teams tied 6-6, it wasn’t as easy, because some teams didn’t face each other during the season, so our first Tie-breaker, head-to-head matches, couldn’t be used fairly. So we went with our second Tie-breaker which is point differentials and that leaves us with our current standings.

Week 8: Tight ball games looking for relief….

10 06 2012

With plenty of Bocce to be decided, week 8 brought the best on the court from most teams and the playoff picture is a little bit clearer, but positioning is not.

First a night recap:

The Meatballs have guaranteed themselves a spot in the playoffs with a win over Revenge of WAH 13-10.  However, their positioning within the playoffs is very murky at the moment.

Bocce Bartokomous playing in the highest scoring game of the season won 21-15 against Revenge of WAH.   But would split the night after falling to Team Schweddy 17-15 in a very contested battle.

In a game for playoff survival Swim, Bike, Bocce defeated What Up, Biocce? 12-10, a game that was up for the winning in every frame.  With the loss What Up is officially out of the playoffs, while Swim, Bike, Bocce would make things harder for themselves by losing to Bocce Said She was 18 21-4.

Cojones Loco fighting for playoff life too, defeated The Big Lebocce 20-14.  A game that was a necessary win for both teams.  Cojones is almost guaranteed a spot in the playoffs after defeating the fledgling Segals 8-7 (yes, no team could muster 10 points on this one). Don’t know if that score is great bocce or great shame.

The Big Lebocce finish the season in dreadful fashion losing 5 of their last 6 games, the last one against License to Roll 19-3. The License for the playoffs has been approved, however the Lebocce’s pass is on hold, depending on the outcomes of week 9 games.

Boccelism sends the Meatballs their last defeat of the regular season 15-7.  Fortunately for the Meatballs they are now in the playoffs, even if in overcooked fashion.

Week 9 storylines….

Bocce Bartokomous and Days of Thunder will meet in the off-ramp this Wednesday, the winner of the game will be the number 1 seat in the playoffs.

Cojones Loco and Team Schweddy both teams play 2 games, the last one against each other.  Playoff life and positioning is in the line for these two teams.  Nothing is guaranteed at the moment.  Win their first one, playoff bound.  Lose second one, positioning.   Lose both….maybe out of the playoffs.

License To Roll could win their last game and end the season 8-4, their best playoff standing would be the #3 seed.

Swim, Bike, Bocce win: playoffs, lose: and all kind of scenarios happens.

Big Lebocce have put their faith in other teams, can only watch their dream season without any say

That’s How We Roll if they manage to win both of their remaining games, they can make it, win only once…will have to see who survives the rumble.

Bocce Said She was 18 can only win, by a lot, and hope that point differentials and head-to-head matchups are in their favor.

Los Bollarinos B.C. can win both games and be spoilers for many teams and have a long, long shot at making the playoffs.

Segals, Boccelism, Revenge of WAH can play spoilers on the last night.

With all that being said, here are the standings:

Week 7 Recap: The Big Pretenders…

3 06 2012

After 6 weeks of bliss and praise, the Meatballs are no longer the darlings of the league.  The Cinderella season took a big hit on Wednesday night.   They went 0-for-3 in the night, and oh, how painful they were.

License to Roll, needing to keep pace to make it into the playoffs, beat the Meatballs 18-11.   The sourness just started for the night, on the next game the couldn’t stop What Up, Biocce? and came up short-handed 16-13.   Later on That’s How We Roll stopped a skid of their own by edging the Meatballs 12-11.   Meatballs now have lost 4 in a row.  With 2 games left on the season their standings in the playoffs still very much in doubt now, after a terrific start.

The other darlings of the season The Big Lebocce, also have their dreams of playoffs put on hold as they ran into the defending champs  and didn’t have an  answer to the 13 points Days of Thunder put on the board against the Lebocce’s 10.  The freshmen Los Bollarinos B.C. make themselves very likeable on the courts by providing the league sweets and baked goods.  But that’s not the only good thing going for them, they beat the “Dudes” and “Dudettes” 16-6 on their only game of the night. The Big Lebocce another team that looked destined for the playoffs, need to find their winning ways if they want to play on the second season.

Swim, Bike, Bocce showed us why you should never give up.   Trailing in the game 12-5 before the officials let them know there were 3 frames left, they showed up and score 3 points in each of those last 3 frames and finish winning the match 14-12 against Days of Thunder.  Their luck continued into the next game by beating the red-hot License to Roll 14-12 in the off-ramp.

What Up, Biocce? swept the night by also beating Bocce Said She was 18 14-11.  What Up kept their hopes of playoff competition alive by winning both of their games. But right now they stand outside looking in.  For a team that had to forfeit 3 games, they have now won 4 out of their last 5 games.  If not for that fateful night, where would they stand?

The Segals had the game within reach, but came up short on the last frame and fell to Boccelism 11-10 in their first game.  They would win against Bocce Said She Was 18 16-12.   Right now it looks like playoff games are not in the cards for the Segals but if they want a chance, they have to win their last 2 games.

Team Schweddy won their third game in a row, this time against Revenge of WAH 17-8.  The Schweddys jump up two more spots on the standings. They need to keep it up, but they seem to have turn the corner.

Another night of low scoring and close games, for the second time this season, nobody scored 21 points. The idle Bocce Bartokomous now are atop the league. But how feeble are the standings at this point? Only the top 2 teams have seemingly clinched playoff spots but even then, they could fall all they way to 8th if they don’t play their cards the right way. From the 3rd spot all the way to the 13th spot nobody is saved from elimination.

Week 6 Recap: Volatile standings

25 05 2012

What do the numbers 7, 4, 2 mean?

This are the last 3 weeks standings of the Bocce Bartokomous. And on Wednesday, they would win the night outright.

On the first game of the night the Bartokomous would find themselves against one of our Cinderella stories, The Big Lebocce. But the “Dude” didn’t have an answer, Bartokomous  would end up winning 14-9, in their closest competition they would get on the night. The off-ramp and Swim, Bike, Bocce didn’t have an answer either and fell 21-6. Boccelism didn’t fare any better and found themselves on the wrong side of a 17-5 match.

After 3 losses in a row Team Schweddy made a jump of it’s own this week, moving up 4 spots and putting themselves in the playoff picture after dispatching Boccelism 18-4. Later on they would leap frog the short-handed Swim, Bike, Bocce on the standings by beating them 14-8. Is this a mirage or are they making a stand?

The Segals had their best night of the season so far, first by defeating Revenge of WAH 16-12. Then on a Fall-2011-playoff rematch would put the Segals against Days of Thunder and revenge was clearly on their mind. After being bumped out of the playoffs last season, they turn the tables and won the match 17-5, handling the defending champs their worst loss of the season 17-5.  Is this a turning point on the season or just a desperate attempt?

The undefeated Meatballs kept it going in their first game of the night by defeating Los Bollarinos B.C. 13-10 on a very tight match.  With the win, the Meatballs have surpassed any previous winning total in their history and seem posed to be part of the post-season for the first time, barring any catastrophe.   The gravy train would hit a snag though, Days of Thunder, and the perfect season is no more after falling 16-8.

The Big Lebocce would flirt with 2 loses in a row, but were able to hang close the whole match against Revenge of WAH, and entering the last frame down by one, they did the necessary rolls and pull out a win at the last moment by squeezing a 14-13 win.

Meatballs and The Big Lebocce (formerly Joey and the Pussycats) have suffered their time at the bottom of the league in previous seasons, but have surely found their stride this year and after going a combined 7-17 last season, this two teams now carry a 12-3 combined record.  Can they keep it going?

To round out the night What Up, Biocce? would hand That’s How we Roll their fourth loss in a row by scoring 14-10 on their only game of the night.

The playoff picture is taking shape after 6 weeks of play, 3 more weeks to go, 14 out of 15 teams are mathematically on the hunt.  The last 3 playoff spots looks like they are there for the taking for any team of the teams that are currently out of the top 8 if they can finish the season strong.

Don’t believe me?  Here are the standings after 6 weeks of play:

Week 5 Recap: License to keep it going…

23 05 2012

Oh Mistress weather teases with a little sun on this Wednesday.   And there seems to be sun for tonight too, let’s hope we don’t jinx it now.

Let’s go through the scores quickly…..

License to Roll had a great week by moving 5 spots in the standings after sweeping 3 games on the night.   The Rollers pose to look great in the inseason games once again.   They started the night by defeating Bocce Said She was 18 16-11.   On their next games things got a little bit more interesting by squeezing by the Cojones Loco 11-9 and finishing the night by beating the unimpressive (this season anyway) Segals 17-6.

One other team would play three games on the night, but they wouldn’t have the success of the Rollers. Boccelism started in the right foot by defeating Bocce Said She was 18 16-10 before the wheels fell of the wagon by suffering a loss of 20-9 to What Up, Biocce?. Followed by a great close battle to the “Dude”, however falling to The Big Lebocce 12-11.

Not even the off-ramp was able to stop the mighty Meatballs who defeated the reeling Team Schweddy 19-10.  Meatballs still undefeated in this season.  They seem to have found a good balance and getting the necessary rolls and sitting pretty atop the league.

The freshmen Los Bollarinos B.C. split their night, on their first game they ran into the Cojones Loco and couldn’t overcome the Locos 17-12. Afterwards they would show they can score by defeating the free-falling Team Schweddy 16-6.

Days of Thunder continued their assault on the league by defeating That’s How We Roll 21-5. This was a matchup of disparity, the Thunders have the highest score average on the league by scoring 17.5 points per game. How we Roll on the other hand have only managed 6 points in their last 3 games. Even with a -24 in points differential, if the playoffs started today, they would be hanging on to the last spot because of head-to-head matchups.

Rounding up the night the guys from Bocce Bartokomous scored 21 vs the 6 of What Up, Biocce?.

Only 2 games reached 21 and 8 teams scored 10 points or less. Again, defense and low scores seem to be the flavor of the season.

Week 4 Recap….Weather just sucks on Wednesdays

11 05 2012

In yet ANOTHER wet Wednesday night (what makes this, a year in a row now?) the courts would be good to play and play we did.

So if the theme of last week was how close the games were, this time, is about all the blowouts.  What Up, Biocce? would call it a night early because of sickness and weather, and forfeit the night.  Unfortunately for them, they would be giving up on 3 games.   Because of our Bocce rules, a forfeit it game is an automatic 10-0 win for the team in the courts.   Good news for Revenge of WAH, The Big Lebocce and That’s How We Roll, all would go home with at least a 10-0 win on the night.

That would be the only consolation for That’s How We dont Roll would get for the night.  They would suffer two huge losses.  The Big Lebocce had a dinner reservation to go to, or so it seemed because they dispatch of That’s How We Roll 21-0 in less than 20 minutes.   Cojones Loco would get in on the action by adding salt to the wound and win 21-1.

But the Locos didn’t only punish one team, they had plenty to give to Boccelism in their 21-2 trampling in the off-ramp court.  Bocce Said She Was 18 won a pair of games, first by taking care of Bocce Bartokomous 20-9 and then  later on by doubling up Los Bollarinos B.C. 16-8.

Los Bollarinos B.C. would go 0 for 2 on the night by losing to Swim, Bike, Bocce 21-10 in their only game of the night.    Days of Thunder found their rhythm and straighten their ship by winning their 2 games of the night.  First against License to Roll in the closest and most interesting game of the night 15-11.   They would trade scores early in the match, but the Thunder show their might and pull away at the end.  Team Schweddy would fall behind against the Thunder and could never recover, and fell 21-9.

License to Roll would split the night, and beat Boccelism 16-7.  The NBL Founder-led Boccelism is finding it hard to find a new balance with his reconfigured team.    This shows the Nocabulabet Bocce League takes no prisoners, everybody pays their price at the bottom.
