Week 3 Recap: Cold Cuts

6 05 2012

Sometimes a team might be able to put all the pieces together, sometimes the stars align and create a rip along the time-space continuum and grant superpowers.   Or maybe is just the cold weather.

Only one undefeated team remains.  With only one game to play for the night the perfect-record Meatballs added another win of 18-9 proportions against Bocce Said She was 18.  How unlikely is this run?  The Meatballs have never had made the playoffs.   Hell, a winning season still eludes them.  Their best finish was a 5-6 back in the Fall of 2009.  We had to check the archives to realize their overall record was 21-50 (a .296 winning percentage) when we include their first season when they were known as the Robotic Uprising.   Keep it up Meatballs, this might just be your season!

Or maybe they were lucky to only had to play 1 game on the night.  10 teams would play 2 games on this night and ALL of them would split the night with a win and a loss.  Here’s a recap of the rest of the night:

That’s How We Roll and Bocce Bartokomous the other undefeated teams coming into the night would fall.   The Bartokomous would lose their first game 13-11 to That’s How We Roll.   The Rollers suffered their defeat at the hands of Los Bollarinos B.C. in another 13-11 game.

Somebody let the Segals know the season started and they won their first game of the night 15-9 over Swim, Bike, Bocce. However they would hit the snooze button in their next game when they fell to Bocce Bartokomous 14-12.

In the theme of the night Swim, Bike, Bocce would win their next game 17-13 against the Cojones Loco.  The Locos savor the taste of victory though when they defeated What Up, Biocce? 13-11

Three games ended 13-11, in fact competition was certainly hotter than the weather.   Eight of the twelve matches were within 4 points.  Only Days of Thunder would score 21 points on the night when they trample over Boccelism 21-12.    But THOR had a movie premier to attend and wouldn’t help the defending champs when they fell 16-14 against Bocce Said She was 18, in yet another close game.

License to Roll would join the winning ranks with a 12-8 game against Revenge of WAH, however they had their license revoked when they paid a fine to What Up, Biocce? 16-8.   Boccelism would beat Los Bollarinos B.C. 13-9.   To round off the scores for the night.

Overall all games have looked very competitive, and the road to the playoffs (early I know) looks very steep this season.   Perennial favorites like Days of Thunder, Segals, License to Roll look very human.  This speaks to the strength of the league and it’s members.  Keep up the good work.

Again, Head-to-Head matches carry a lot of power this week.   Here’s the Standings after 3 weeks of games.
